Hello everyone!

I just wanted to take the time to thank CLEO for all the guidance and advice they have provided for me.

I started at the junior jumpstart program and attended the ASAP program, as well. If you can make it to the ASAP, GO!! That was the most helpful event I could have ever asked for!

The application process is very intimidating and it is vital to pay close attention to detail. I applied and felt very confident b/c of the advice I received at ASAP.

I will be attending SMU law school in August! I wish everyone the best of luck and feel free to contact me if anyone has questions! I am forever grateful for CLEO !!

I am currently a junior at UTPA, working on a BA in Accounting. Although, my degree is not that of a typical student interested in law school, I chose it because I wanted a degree that would push and challenge me. However, it did have its downsides since my first two years of college lacked any type of preparation for my ultimate goal which is law school. Fortunately, through the Career Services department offered at my school I found out about CLEO. I then applied to the Sophomore Summer Institute and was fortunate enough to get chosen as one of the participants. Applying and taking part in SSI was one of the best things I have done since it offered me something no other program had offered me: early LSAT preparation and the opportunity to be taught by actual law professors. I can honestly say that any one who has the opportunity to take part in any CLEO program should do so. If you take part in any CLEO program, you have a serious advantage over other students that wait too late to start preparing for law school. In SSI my passion for law was put to test and now I have no doubt in my mind this is what I want to do.

After completing SSI I decided to become a CLEO Ambassador so that I could spread the word about CLEO to other college students so, they too could take advantage of it. As the year comes to an end I am happy about all that I have accomplished and the many people that I have exposed CLEO to. When school resumes I will be ready continue fulfilling my duties as an ambassador and to continue preparing for law school.

Message to those considering law school/CLEO:

At times college can become very stressful, but if you learn to prioritize by putting programs like CLEO, that help you every step of the way in preparing/applying for law school, on top you will find it a lot easier to achieve your goals.

Hello, as the year comes to a close I can't hep recalling my first semester as a CLEO Ambassador. After completing SSI 2009 in Houston, I was ready for the challege. I'm proud to say that I met my goals for 2009. My priority was to encourage students on the 'road to law school'. There have been countless students who have revived their desires to do their best after hearing about the programs offered. One person in particular had decided that they were not smart enough to get into law school and with some motivational advice this person has decided to take Kaplan and attempt the LSAT. I believed that this person just needed someone to remind them that with perseverance and dedication, all goals can be met.

Through these opportunities I met various law school professors and discussed the benefits of CLEO. I even got to do a video for a LSAT prep course along with free LSAT practice tests. CLEO helped me to focus myself considering how hectic this year was. I want to end this year with the hope and promise that next year will be an even greater success! Happy Holidays!

The Ambassador position was a really rewarding experience, as it allowed for me to work with my school's Pre-Law Advisers and my fellow CLEO Ambassador Yusuf. Throughout the semester we attended Pre-Law events, and made presentations during pre-law clubs meetings. Several people from our school have expressed interest in CLEO and all of the opportunites it provides because of these meetings and events. We were able to recount our personal experiences with CLEO, and tell them about the personal benefits we've received by being involved with CLEO. We told them about the friends we've made, and the experiences our friends have had as well. I told them about how CLEO helped erase any doubt in my mind about becoming a lawyer.

We've already begun planning events for next semester, and we're trying to get in contact with some Pre-Law organizations that we had trouble reaching this semester. We're also trying to figure out ways to reach people who aren't directly affiliated with a Pre-Law organization, so we can reach a wider audience.

This semester has been pretty busy for me, as I wind down my career as a student at NC state. Its been a fun experience being a CLEO ambassador. I've met many new people on campus as I was trying to promote my pre-law club as well as all of the CLEO programs. I have also been doing the JASD online program given by Prof. Webking. It has really helped me with my analytical thinking and reasoning. I would suggest to anyone who has a chance to be a CLEO ambassador to definitely do it! It's a great chance to inform others on all of the possible programs that CLEO has to offer; it also allows you to learn more about the programs yourself. All in all, I can't wait for the trip in DC in January so I can meet all of my old friends from the Road to Law School program this summer. Until next time...

Hello CLEO scholars, how are you all doing? I hope you had a great Thanksgiving celebration since you will need that energy to finish up you final examinations. This is my last posting for this year as a CLEO Ambassador since I will be preparing for the finals myself.

During November, I have been promoting CLEO on Boston University campus and the best part is that few people have responded to my flyers on campus. In fact, this month, Boston university alumni came to attend one of my group's law related events that we hold on a monthly basis. The best part is that we were able to reach out to the alumni who intend to pursue a legal career. That is it for now, I hope to see you all in Washington D.C. on January 8th as we start to prepare for LSATs! HAppy Thanksgiving once again.

As for promoting CLEO on Boston University campus, I posted throught the campus CLEO advertisements to attract more student. I also introduced CLEO to several new members of my organization that promotes diversity in the legal field at Boston University. For the next month, I do not have much planned out yet, but I will get right on it once I am done with all of my midterms. Well, as for me school is hectic from the very first day, but I am handling it, more or less. This month as a CLEO Ambassador, I have been advertising CLEO on Boston University campus through Pre-Law Society and Diversity in Law Association. So far, roughly fifty students showed interest in the program. So, hopefully, in the future, more Bostonians will be attending CLEO programs. Well, that is it for now.

College goes by so quickly and already I am a sophomore. I cannot believe it. I can remember being so nervous and excited about leaving home and beginning classes as if it were yesterday. I did not know what to expect as an undecided major freshman. I had not really developed any real skills in studying and I had to learn some immediately after I got my results back from the first exams. I remember doing tremendously better once I went to office hours and sought tutoring. One thing I can say to freshman is to study, study, study and go to office hours and good luck of course. This year I will follow the same paths that lead to my success last year to ensure that I will remain successful.

I attended CLEO's Sophomore Summer Institute this past June at Thurgood Marshall School of Law in Houston. It was by far the greatest experience of my life.
I came back to Dallas a whole new person, but I also came back to Dallas only to find out that I lost my job. I did not let it disappointment me. I decided to update my resume and search for a position in the legal field since I obtained an Associates Degree in Paralegal Studies.
I applied for many positions and three out of the many called me back. There was one position that I applied for that required me to complete an assignment to make sure I could actually do the work. I remembered during my stay in Houston all of the professors were gracious enough to allow the students to contact them for anything and everything.
I needed help on the assignment so I contacted Professor Ana Otero. She told me she would help me as long as I completed the research. I spent my whole entire 4th of July weekend trying to complete this assignment. Professor Otero took time out of her busy schedule to not only help a fellow CLEO student, but she also gave me a wonderful recommendation. She personally called me to make sure I understood what I was doing and told me to call her anytime.
The CLEO SSI program gave me lots of experience, the advantage of networking with law students, former judges, law professors, and lawyers, and an opportunity to further advance my knowledge in the legal field. The CLEO program also prepared me for law school as well as working in a law firm settting. Because of my experience with CLEO, I did get the job. The attorney was very familiar with CLEO and very impressed that I was apart of such a prestigious program.
I plan to attend other programs for CLEO and I hope I have encouraged other students to be apart of CLEO as well!
Thanks,
Jessica Ezeanya

We had our first exam today in Professor Clark's class and I feel pretty good about it. I suppose I should wait until I get my score before becoming too relieved. All in all though, it was an ok experience--much easier than I expected! I think that's because we were so worried that we felt it necessary to put everything into studying. Hopefully it paid off!

To become an attorney of law, one must have the mindset that he or she is a "creator of circumstances" and not a creature of circumstances. Such a belief must surely be practice in order to complete law school because law school is very demanding. Yet, the rewards one can achieve after completing law school can be stupendous.

Without question, a successful attorney of law is a "creator of circumstances" for he or she finds a way to steer the law for the good of the legal situation. Thus, one must keep in mind that a creature of cirumstances is one who settles for less, and most certainly will end up being a victim rather than a victor of circumstances whereby the latter correlates profoundly with the attitude one must have to complete law school and go on to become an aspiring attorney of law.

Tonight's homework was a little less than last night's, so I was able to complete my readings for Prof. Clark semi-early. Of course I will still have to review them with a groub tomorrow, but getting done earlier is pretty awesome. The cases we had to read tonight focused on "consideration". I'm not sure I fully understanding the cases, but I'm hoping that sleeping on it and reviewing them tomorrow will help. Prof. Webking introduced us more to some crazy formal logic in the morning. I can't wait to find it more fun than intimidating.

Today was an interesting start to the program. I enjoyed the first class reading Socrates and answering those analytical questions on the board. I thought that the next class instructed by Professor Clark would be the toughest and most intensive of them all. It wasn’t that intense and it provided me a thorough understanding of the cases that we have read from the night before. The walk around this campus back and forth to the law building, cafeteria, and the dorm seems to be the most exhausting thing of them all. After a while I should be use to it. I really did think that I really wasn’t going to enjoy both classes because I thought it both of them actually would be really intense, but I was relax with an open mind, and ended up learning a great deal today.

Professor Clark's class was really interesting as well. We analyzed two cases by way of the socratic method and the trial process.

The work load is heavy, yet I am learning to manage my time and ask questions to arrive at comprehension. Also, I am really enjoying getting to know my colleagues. It is really nice to be amongst a group of such diverse, motivated students. I am sure that I will build life long friendships here.....

Then, at about 2:00 p.m., we had an exam on tort laws; to differentiate between battery, assault, and negligence; to compare and to contrast some of the cases we have studied and briefed over the last five days.

Today has, for the most part, been a good day. I woke up in the best possible manner, without the use of an alarm clock. After making my bed and cleaning up my room, my roomate suggested that we eat a hearty breakfast before we begin to do our work. We proceeded to ask other students in this progam to accompany us to a well known restaurant, Annie G's. As we were walking to this location we struck up a very deep conversation about a very controversial subject. To my delight this conversation continued on through the duration of our breakfast. The food was extremely good and this intellectually stimulating conversation covered a broad range of interesting topics from traditional gender roles from our own ancestoral countries to class and race relations within the United States. After this great breakfast, we returned to our dorm rooms and I immediately began to do my work. I have doing my work since breakfast. Thus far, I feel good. The latter party went on until about 1 a.m. Today is a day off; it's a rainy day; we will get plenty of rest and enjoy our time in the state of Illinois.

Today was a very exciting day. Because of my efforts yesterday in the library, I earned the privelage of sleeping a complete eight hours. As a result, I woke up completely refreshed and ready to start the day at 7 A.M. After breakfast, the class was treated to an hour of LSAT lecture with Professor Anderson and his personality throughout the lecture definitely further motivated me to see his performance later on today. During lunch I really enjoyed the conversation which I had with my roomate, Ahmado. He has a very unique personality and I consider my priveledged to have him as a roomate. Also during class, I found Professor Hunter's personal statement and LSAT writing workshops to be very informational. She demonstrated how to constructively approach each of these tasks in manner which fulfills our goals of clarity and maximizing our efficiency. This was followed by an assignment by Professor Hunter which required us to use the IRAC method of answereing test questions. As of right now, I feel fantastic and I look forward to this night's performance and this weekend.

I have just finished school and looking back the only thing i can share is that keeping up with the reading and taking key notes about what you read is the best study tip. When you keep up with reading and notes when it comes to the exams all you have to do is go and review. Also make flash cards because you can take those with you everywhere and keep it helps to keep the information fresh in your brain until it comes time for your exam.

most importantly DONT PROCRASTINATE... one thing is not having time another thing is just being lazy !!!

Ending Junior Year @ Undergrad

Many times I have heard how hard it is to complete the Junior year of Undergrad in college. I did not believe the hype or madness until during finals time junior year. I did not do as bad as I had believed I would have if it were not for the Power Hour studying blocks and Starbucks to see me through to completion. I let myself fall behind tremedously in reading materials and literal analysis and I have made a personal commitment to never do that again unless I do not have the desire to attend law school, which is my passion. Seriously, I am seeking advice about how to not fall behind during Senior Year at Undergrad so that I will refrain from posting a message like this one this time next year before I graduate from Mason.

I've learned in life that to get the most out of life, what you put into it, is what you're going to get out of life. Such an attitude definitely applies to getting into and completing law school.

Yet, have you ever notice the "yes-we-can" look of those who are in law school, and especially when they have completed it. Without question, law school empowers an individual to be successful eventhough sacrifices must be made to undertake and finish it.

Hello everyone! I am so excited to be taking part in CLEO's sophomore summer pre-law institute at TSU! After reading some of the posts from last year's participants, my nervousness grew. It seems as though we have our work cut out for us! However, I am confident that such an intelligent, diverse group has weathered tougher storms. I am excited to meet everyone and hope to learn alot in the process.

The opportunity to go to law school is like a dream come true for me. I feel like one of the greatest academic achievements one could make in life is to go to law school to become an Attorney of Law. To learn and developed the ability to analyze, interpret, and cite the law as well as the ability to research and write the law, is a skill set that is highly recognized and respected througout the world.

One with such talent has the priviledge in being invited to renowned events where legal issues have to be resolved. Only one type of person can perform such feat to assure that justice is being properly meted out, and that is one who studied in law school. As the great general Napoleon Bonaparte once said, "Words can be more powerful than the barrel of a gun."

This will be my first blogging experience ever. I am excited to enter the rapidly growing world of bloggers, as bewildering as it may be at first glance.
I thought the confirmation to begin blogging was immediate, and so I made several attempts to post, change my password, and re-register with the blog, all to no avail. Eventually I set up a new email account and used that email address to register again...and still was not able to post. Then this morning, I recieved an email providing me with my password, and informing me that I was approved for the program. Oops.

Posted by: Terrel Adams

I started packing my dorm today. It was a surprisingly sad experience for me. My finals don't end until next week unfortunately, but I figured I should get a jump-start on packing, especially since everyone in my dorm seems to be moved out. I had my second to last final today-- Intro to Psychology final-- and I feel like I did well. I really hope so.

Besides academics, I'm excited to participate in a stroll show with my sorority, La Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha, Incorporada, and excited to see my mom and dad on Wednesday. My parents are driving from Chicago to move me out; they think it would be cheaper than shipping my belongings to Chicago. But most of all, I'm excited for the Summer Sophomore Institute. I'm excited to meet everyone that will be participating in the program with me.

Posted By: Angelica Maciel
